3 Bicolanos top LET exams

NAGA CITY — At least three Bicolanos have been included in the elite list of topnotchers in the latest Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) given last September 2010.
Maria Cecilia A. Rodriguez of Naga College Foundation ranked fourth in the LET for Secondary Education, while Hazel Grace C. Abuque of Universidad de Sta. Isabel and Miguel Dominique A. Martinez of Bicol University tied in eighth place for Elementary Education.
Rodriguez scored 87 percent in the exam, a slim .80% behind first placer Jean Mondala Millare of the University of the Philippines Diliman.
Rodriguez was a consistent valedictorian in elementary and high school but her failure to be included in the honors list in college became her driving force to excel in the licensure exam.
“It was my goal to be an honor student in college not in elementary or in secondary. Unfortunately though, I was not included in the honors’ list. It was then that I decided to really do my best in the exam for me to give pride to the school and to my sponsor,” she shared.
Abuque who is working as a tutor even before she graduated college said her inspiration is her mother who prayed and diligently recited the novena during the semester she was reviewing for the exam.
“My mother is very supportive of me. She even sponsored a mass for a year just for my success. I did not expect to top the exam but I hoped I will,” says Abuque.
Meanwhile, the City Government of Naga, under the initiative of Sanggunian Panlungsod Committee on Education Chairman Nelson Legacion, passed a joint and collective resolution last Tuesday, November 23, to congratulate the two Nagueñas for topping the LET.
During the session, Legacion asked the SP to pass a resolution congratulating Abuque and Rodriquez even as he instructed the City School Board to consider hiring the two topnotchers.
