New LP members sworn in

Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo has sworn in 245 new members of the Liberal Party (LP) Saturday afternoon, June 2, here.

Robredo said that the entry of new members of administration party shows that they are gaining strength in Bicol though he cautioned that they were more for quality than quantity.

He said they would look at fielding candidates in any local position based on the capacity of the local chapters of the LP.

“This (LP) is not a traditional party wherein slates for elective positions are filled up just to say that they have strength,” Robredo said.

Abet Bercasio, spokesperson of the local LP, said the new members include four mayors of the five-town first district of Rep. Rolando Andaya Jr.

Bercasio said other new LP members came from Albay (23), Masbate (8) and Catanduanes (6).

He said the new LP members have to go through an orientation seminar before they could be sworn in.
