Naga Tigers first in Bicol to compete in the nat’l basketball championship

After being included in the Elite 8 of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) Championship, Naga College Foundation (NCF) Tigers Basketball Team will now be competing against seven other university champs in basketball game in the entire Philippines.

The championship games will be on February 8, 2018, at the Ynares Gym Taguig.

The Tigers landed the Elite 8 after they took home the championship against Lyceum Northwestern University (LNU) Dukes, 79-75, in the conducted 2017 Luzon Champions of the PCCL held at the LNU gymnasium in Dagupan City, November 30, 2017.

The team first champed the Naga City 2017 Charter Intercollegiate Basketball Tournament— hailing them to represent the city in the PCCL Southern Luzon Finals in which they emerged champions again after winning against the University of Perpetual Help System of Laguna Saints, 98-74, held at the UNC Sports Palace, November 15- 18, 2017.

The Tigers will now be representing Luzon against the NCR UAAP and NCAA champions and first runner- ups, and Visayas and Mindanao regions champ basketball teams as well.

Dr. Robert Villanueva, the Chief Finance Officer of NCF, expressed their delight as it will be the first time that Naga City and the entire Bicol region will have a representative team in basketball to compete in the national championship of the game.

The team had been recently practicing hard in preparation for their national competition.

The team, composed of student athletes of NCF, include two Nigerians who are also enrolled in the school.

The school, NCF, as well as the City Government of Naga, are very supportive of the team in their needed allowances, scholarship, accommodation and other forms of financial assistance, hopeful as well of the positive results that the team will took home.
