Committee to establish Robredo museum formed

City Mayor John G. Bongat last Monday signed Executive Order No. 2012-020 creating an executive committee for the establishment of a Jesse M. Robredo Museum and Memorabilia at the Raul S. Roco Library at the City Hall compound here.

In the said executive order, the city mayor said that there is a need to perpetuate the memory of the late DILG Secretary Jesse M. Robredo who once served as mayor of this city, his legacy and exemplary achievements, by establishing a museum and memorabilia house in his honor. The museum, the mayor said, will henceforth serve as the repository of the late Secretary Robredo’s works and achievements as an icon, advocate, and champion of good governance in the country.

Robredo’s death, untimely that it was, was the nation’s great loss which turned into a powerful testimony of an outstanding public servant which prompted no less than President Benigno Aquino III to honor his remains, recovered from the site of the place crash off the waters of Masbate City last Augut 18, 2012, with a state funeral and confer on him posthumously the Legion of Honor with the rank of Chief Commander.

Bongat in the executive order named Jose B. Perez chair of the executive committee, with the following as members: Tito Valiente of the Social Sciences Department of the Ateneo de Naga University, City Librarian Rico Vinluan, Landscape Architect Julia Angela Guysayko, Engr. Rodolfo Fortuno of the City Engineer’s Office, City Information technology Officer Anselmo Mano, and Huberto Ursua, i-Governance executive officer.

The committee will recommend design for the museum and memorabilia; sort out, collate, and collect multi-media materials and other published articles, trophies, medals, citations and awards received; research works and presentation papers; news and video clips, testimonials, and other paraphernalia and material sources all related to the late Robredo’s works and times as a child, student, junior executive, BRBDP program director, city mayor, President of the City Mayor’s League of the Philippines, chairman of the Bicol Regional Development Council; and as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Governments.

The executive order takes effect immediately.
