Naga’s project monitoring is Bicol’s best

This city’s Project Monitoring Committee was once again selected as Outstanding Local Project Monitoring Committee for 2010 by the Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC) of the Bicol Regional Development Council.

In his earlier letter to Mayor John G. Bongat, RPMC Chairman Atty. Romeo C. Escandor said the Naga City PMC would be conferred the outstanding local project monitoring committee under the city category.

This year’s project monitoring committee of Naga City is headed by topnotch City Councilor Cecilia de Asis who replaced erstwhile City Councilor Bongat when the latter was elected mayor in the 2010 local election.

The city government had been awarded with similar recognition during Bongat’s chairmanship of the committee because of its close monitoring and vigilance on how public funds were spent in the implementation of all the infrastructure and non-infra projects in the city.

The award, which was conferred by the RDC on May 27, 2011 at the Estevez Hall, NEDA Region V, in Legazpi City,  is the city’s fourth.

In 2007, the city government garnered the award for the most outstanding PMC which was followed in 2008 when it got the second place and in 2009, again as most outstanding.

City Councilor de Asis said the monitoring committee is requesting the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to direct all its regional directors and district engineers to furnish all the local project monitoring committees with programs of work as a tool for promoting greater social accountability.

De Asis further said that they are also requesting the members of the Bids and Awards Committee in the city (BACs) to furnish the monitoring committee copies of all infrastructure projects so that necessary monitoring can be undertaken even before the projects are completed.
