LGU- Naga City one of the 2017 Apolinario Mabini awardee

The City Government of Naga has been adjudged as one of the 2017 Apolinario Mabini awardee under the Local Government Unit of the Year category.

The award is being given by the Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, Inc. (PFRD) in honor of one of the country’s heroes, Apolinario Mabini, who, despite his disability, made his contribution in the Philippine freedom.

The Apolinario Mabini Award aims to “(1) recognize individuals, groups and agencies that have made outstanding contributions to persons with disabilities and (2) promote wider recognition of disabled persons as self-respecting, self-reliant and productive members of society.”

It measures the “rendered exceptional services to the mass of citizens with disabilities within its jurisdiction in the last two years.”

Christopher Molin, the head of the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) of Naga City, said that LGU- Naga, headed by Mayor John Bongat, is truly supportive of the PWD sector’s cause, given its initiatives such as the various ordinances and policies being passed to protect and promote the rights of the PWDs, as well as its strict compliance to the Accessibility Law.

The city also has its Resource Center for the Blind and the Community- Based Rehabilitation Specialists (CBRS) who closely monitor and identify the PWDs in every barangay.

Details for the awarding ceremony is still yet to be announced.

NAGA City Mayor John G. Bongat was hailed as one of the Communication Excellence in Organizations (CEO) Awardees during the conferment rites held last November 21, 2016, at the Manila Grand Ballroom- Mariott Hotel, Newport City, Pasay City.

The CEO Excel Awards is an honor being given annually by the International Association of Business Communicators Philippines (IABC) to top-level business executives and organization leaders from the private, government, academic and non-profit sectors who have shown excellence in communication and competence in management in realizing their corporate goals.

Several efforts of the city in creating programs that have been engaging the community in participatory governance include the: (1) Rebranding of the Naga City Website to Naga SMILES to the World and making it more interactive; (2) Using the latest and trending tools in the social media such as Facebook and Twitter, with an official page “Naga SMILES to the World”; and (3) Establishing a permanent office, the City Events, Protocol, and Public Information Office (CEPPIO), dedicated to public information using print, broadcast, and social media, publishing the Naga City Gazette and the Naga SMILES Magazine online and in hard copies, and producing “An Naga Ngonian” teleradyo news program every Saturday, simulcast in various local radio and TV Stations.

NAGA CITY — From his official travel in China, Naga City Mayor John G. Bongat will stay for a while in Manila to be honored as recipient of the Communication Excellence in Organizations (CEO) Excel Awards 2016.

Kane Errol Chua, chairman of the International Association of Business Communicators of the Philippines (IABC Philippines) and Belle Tiongco, chairperson of CEO Excel Awards 2016, said in their letter to Bongat that with the honor, the city mayor has joined a “select group of outstanding national and industry leaders who epitomize management competence and excellence in communication at a strategic level.”

IABC Philippines is the first country chapter outside of North America, since 1983. It advocates for professional growth, learning and communication excellence. It has some 11,000 member-professionals in over 70 countries.
